Big Bend and Carnarvon Gorge camp grounds are the only National Park camping areas with access to Carnarvon Gorge. Be aware that camp sites at Mount Moffatt, Salvator Rosa and Ka Ka Mundi do not offer access to Carnarvon Gorge.

Carnarvon Gorge camp ground is only open during the Easter, June-July, and August-September Qld school holidays. Big Bend is open year round and is a 10 km hike from the nearest vehicular access. Bookings are essential and can only occur online.

If you like a bit of space, Big Bend and Sandstone Park are best. Other options can get pretty crowded, particularly during school holidays.

Carnarvon Gorge camp ground is only open during the Easter, June-July, and August-September Qld school holidays and has seven sites suitable for camper trailers and 4WD campervans. There are no sites for caravans. Bookings are essential and can only occur online.

Be aware that camp sites at Mount Moffatt, Salvator Rosa and Ka Ka Mundi do not offer access to Carnarvon Gorge.

Sandstone Park is the newest accommodation option available at Carnarvon Gorge year round. They cater for travellers who are relatively self-sufficient. There is a dump point, a few portaloos, and 41 enormous drive-thru sites, each with its own campfire. No potable water is available on site.
Cabin Tips

External ensuites are private bathrooms attached to accommodation, which are not able to be accessed from within.

Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge does not have cooking facilities within their Safari-style Cabins, nor can guests use cooking equipment within them. Your choices are to use the restaurant, or to come prepared otherwise. There are free BBQs in the Day Use Area in the National Park a short distance away.

Takarakka do not allow guests staying elsewhere to access their property.

Public showers ($1 for 3 minutes) are available when the Carnarvon Gorge camp ground is open during the Easter, June-July, and August-September Qld school holidays, which may be of interest to some staying at Sandstone Park.
